How is TrainSMART uniquely positioned?
What sets TrainSMART apart and how is it uniquely positioned? One thing is the assessments. I do a majority of the assessments here, and I’ll dig really deep to try to find out what someone’s goals are, because you can’t design a program unless you know where they want to go. And sometimes, you have to dig a little bit deeper to really uncover what somebody wants. Another thing in this assessment is we will look at a little bit of past medical history and also do a functional movement screening. This allows us to identify movement compensations where I can address when we design the customized program. And if someone has a weak area, we can put some extra exercises to stabilize that area and get it stronger. If an area is tight, we identify those and we might be able to customize some extra stretches or soft tissue work into their program. This really keeps the client safe. So we do that functional movement screen, find out that starting point, that fitness level that clients are ready to start with, and then we can get into their coaching.
Now, another thing that is a little unique about TrainSMART is we have a hybrid model where our client can do online or they can do it here at the gym. Our clients are busy, they are traveling, and so that’s really nice. They don’t have to miss a workout. They could be training in their hotel rooms, still getting that mobility and core work in and using their body weight for resistance or they could be here at the gym, using the equipment we have here. So those are some things that are clearly unique to TrainSMART.
Favorite part about working at TrainSMART
What is my favorite part about working at TrainSMART? Number one, it’s hearing the client’s success stories. There’s nothing more rewarding than when that person comes up to you and let you know that they hit their goal and you were a part of that process. Another thing that is kind of cool, in that process, TrainSMART has that semi-private model that allows you to communicate to that client regularly, check in and you’re able to offer a little more guidance and feedback on that journey to hit that goal. And we’ve had clients whether it’s helping somebody hike Mount Kilimanjaro or simple as getting in and out of the bathtub without pain. Hearing those goals hit is just awesome, so that’s one of my favorite parts about working here.
Important Things in My Life
So what’s really important in my life is having a strong relationship with my wife, Lindsey, and my 2-year old daughter, Nola. I gotta keep up with them, so it’s also important to have a healthy and active lifestyle. We do a lot of active things together. So a few of those types of hobbies, we have peddle boards, me and my wife do that, we hike, we’re kind of on a mission to conquer all 46 of the Adirondack high peaks, and we’ve been smart and strategic about this where we started with the most challenging ones. So we have the ten down, and they’re some of the most hardest ones, and we’re working our way to the easier ones. Skiing is also a fun thing, and important to me is teaching my daughter kind of my hobbies and things in my craft and sharing those with her.
