As a Buffalo Fitness Coach, it's my pleasure to share with you a client profile of one of my favorite people in the world. Actress Angie Shriner is beautiful inside and out. She is not only an aspiring actress with a real shot to make it, she is a friend, a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and a Professional WERQ Dance Instructor. She lights up a room with her smile, tremendous positive energy, and is kind of like a leprechaun fairy (inside joke). I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to train her and her boyfriend Matthew Nerber 3 times a week, just about every week for over a year. They were part of what I called and even put in my schedule as Joe's Super Star Afternoon Class. I believe we did over 150 hours of training together and frankly they learned just about everything I know. We had great fun, learned a ton, and achieved GREAT RESULTS! I've written this blog so you can experience to some degree what it's like to be a client of TrainSMART and work with one of the Buffalo Fitness Coaches at TrainSMART. Question - Please tell us about yourself: Name, Age, Fitness & Wellness Goals before you came in & as they may have changed during our time together, your profession, how Fitness & Wellness fit in, who you are, a few things about you personally, and your aspirations In Angie's own words: Angie Shriner, 23 years old, Female Goals before I came in: Lose fat, gain muscle Goals currently: Continue to build lean muscle and gain strength. Work on flexibility and mobility and create time to "work in" by doing activities like yoga. My profession: Actor and Fitness professional Being active helps me in both of my jobs because when I work out I feel more energized and ready to perform. I feel comfortable in my own skin, so I can really focus on helping my clients/doing a scene onstage. I am a WERQ dance fitness workout instructor and I dance at least once a day. I have to take great care of my body so I can have the energy to motivate and inspire others. Onstage and at the gym!
Question - Before you came in, what was holding you back from achieving your goals? Was it lack of good instruction, no direction, lack of knowledge, or anything else? I was being held back by lack of knowledgeable trainers. Often times, I was being pushed too hard, not recovering, not getting enough rest, eating too little, eating too much...Lack of proper guidance and information. BAD FORM! NO ONE ever taught me good form.
Question - What types of things did we do together, things that you learned that you thought really helped an made a difference? I learned so many valuable exercises with Buffalo Fitness Coach Joe Fox. Foam rolling (which I do every day), flexibility and mobility (I never understood the importance until I was shown at TrainSMART!), core training (extremely valueable), TRX, kettlebell, sandbags, primal based crawling, running, sprinting, nutrition, bodyweight exercises, corrective exercise. We were taught in an extremely fun, encouraging group environment. It was never boring, we always mixed things up.
Question - Please spend a little bit of time talking about how other actors could benefit by working with TrainSMART and what type of person would be a good fit for the Buffalo Fitness Coaches at TrainSMART. Other actors could benefit by working with TrainSMART because these workouts will train your body from head to toe! You will have increased core strength, flexibility, endurance, and will feel FANTASTIC in your own skin. A lot of this training is FUNCTIONAL, and it personally aided in my physicality onstage. I never felt too sore or uncomfortable to do a show! A good fit for TrainSMART would be a hardworking individual looking to make a change in a safe, effective, fun way. You are not going to be beating your body to a pulp, rather you will be doing functional movements that prepare your body for life! Lifting grocery bags, having energy to chase after kids, changing tires, walking around the block. Individuals that truly want to enhance their quality of life should come to TrainSMART.
Question - Please share the key components of what you learned and what is staying with you as you continue on your journey. Foam rolling, I am convinced, is the fountain of youth. As much as I dance, foam rolling heals my muscles unlike anything else! My "go to" workout is any TrainSMART core/flexibility and mobility program plus a few sets of upper body pushes and pulls. Not only were the workouts at TrainSMART FUN, but I was FINALLY SHOWN CORRECT form, and they are workouts that STUCK with me. I still do TRX and kettlebell training today because I enjoy these workouts and they are quick and efficient. Once I learned proper running form, I enjoyed running. I still run today! Most importantly, TrainSMART taught me that workouts should be about enjoying movement, not torturing your body. I teach a lot of what I learned from Fitness Coach Joe Fox to my own classes and clients because I feel it is the most beneficial way to exercise. Movement truly is medicine!
