Hannah Zimmerman shares a very important lesson she took away during her career: Form Determines Function!
In the exercise science curriculum, one of the first things I learned about anatomy and physiology in general is that form determines function, and it was drilled and drilled.
Again, being fresh in my career, I’ve been in strength and conditioning and coaching for about 4 years now, two of my biggest influences firstly is Paul Childress at Absolute Performance. The biggest thing I learned from him was that form determines function, and his ability to go mechanics first and to make sure that that’s how the movements are being done and executed, I mean I saw huge progressions personally. It just has incredible carry over in pain signs or treating with pain. You have an athlete come in or a regular working individual coming in, if their movement patterns are off, then that could be one of the reasons why they’re having pain or one of the reasons they’re not making the cut.
