Playing sports are a great way to stay active at any age, but it should not be your only form of exercise! Learn more about how we can help you to play the sports you love longer and better as well as some best practices to prevent injury!
I absolutely love sports! I bet you do too! Whether it’s playing golf, tennis, or squash, pickle ball, running, volleyball, badminton, your softball league, maybe it’s recreational ice hockey… All of those sports are awesome, and a big part of what we do here at TrainSMART is we help our clients to play the sports that they love for as long as they would like into their 60s, 70s, and beyond. We help them develop completely customized and strategic exercise programs designed to complement the recreational sports that they love playing to prevent injuries in those sports and to actually play those sports better, improving their performance.
At TrainSMART, it’s very common that we have clients or patients or customers come in and they have recreational sports like the one I mentioned that they love but that’s all that they do for exercise. That is the extent of their exercise, and unfortunately that, for many, many people, is a recipe for failure. It’s so important to complement the recreational sports that you love like all the ones mentioned (and I’m sure I may have missed some) with a customized, strategic program that empowers you to prevent injuries while you play the sports that you love, hurt less, and actually perform at a higher level.
It’s very common at TrainSMART that we have people that come in that love to run or they love to golf, but they can’t do it as much as they would like, and this applies to all the other sports mentioned as well, because they’re in pain. Sometimes it might be as simple as training 2-3 days a week with us and us designing a strategic warmup that may be anywhere from 8-15 minutes that they would do before they play the recreational sport. This warmup is so important, because what it does is activate all the muscles that they’re going to be using while they’re playing these sports. It turns on all their energy systems. It gets their brain and motor control ready for those sports, and it absolutely prevents injuries and helps them to play better and to perform better. My business partner, Dr. Brandon Mancuso, once asked one of our clients, “When was the last time that you played a round of golf without being in pain the next day?” And this could be any sport they played without having pain the next day. We’re here to fix that problem. So here at TrainSMART, we are completely committed to helping you to play the recreational sports that you love that are a heck of a lot of fun, and help you to do it while preventing injuries and play those sports better into your 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond!
